Midnight is a collection of illustrations that combine two dueling qualities within a woman’s life. The pressure to be strong and independent with the fear of walking alone after dark. ”Take Back the Night” is a movement where women come together to take back the night and walk freely with no fear of violence. I was inspired to further this concept and design the wardrobe of a woman who encompasses the ability to walk freely in the dark while staying strong and empowered. The clothing references military uniforms from present day Iraq to the war of 1812. Each piece empowers the wearer to conquer each day and not let anyone stand in their way. The embellishments paired with the illustrations demonstrate examples of possible construction techniques.
Midnight will debut on the Curved Wall Gallery February 10th- March 10th, 2012
Opening Reception February 17th, 2012 at 5:30-7pm.
